Notes

In countries where village chickens are important there is a growing interest in ethnoveterinary medicine. Traditional treatments are often based on the use of local plants. The pharmaceutical industry is also showing a renewed interest in products that can be derived from plants, and especially with the search for products that might replace antibiotics as growth promotants. The author refers to these products as "nutraceuticals".
The paper discusses the use of compounds derived from oregano in rearing commercial poultry.
