Notes

In laboratory experiments chickens fed the V4 strain of Newcastle disease vaccine on cooked parboiled rice, chickens kept in contact with the food-vaccinated chickens and chickens receiving intranasal V4 vaccine were completely protected against challenge with virulent Newcastle disease virus. Oral vaccination was less effective under village conditions. Eye-drop vaccination in the field gave high levels of protection against experimental challenge. Oral V4 vaccine was shown to induce neutralising antibody, mucosal immunity with virus-specific IgA and cell-mediated immunity.
