Notes

The growth of the Australian Newcastle disease vaccines strain V4 and strain I-2 was studied in cell culture. I-2 virus was cytopathic in cultures of chick embryo fibroblasts, kidney cells and liver cells. V4 produced cytopathic changes only in the liver cells. A batch of I-2 vaccine was prepared under conditions simulating those that pertain in regional laboratories in developing countries. Vaccine was grown in embryonated eggs from a free-range flock that were incubated in a simple incubator. Vaccine was stored in liquid form in 1% gelatin. There was only a slight loss in titre on storage at 22oC for 2 weeks.
