XIII World’s Poultry Congress
The KYEEMA Foundation and the International Rural Poultry Centre held a booth display at the World’s Poultry Congress in Brisbane, Australia in July 2008. The Congress attracted thousands of delegates from almost 80 countries worldwide. Dr Robyn Alders from the International Rural Poultry Centre (a subsidiary of the KYEEMA Foundation) was a keynote speaker, presenting to the topic “Village poultry: still important to millions eight thousand years after domestication”. The Congress was a wonderful opportunity to publicise the work of the KYEEMA Foundation and the International Rural Poultry Centre and make contacts with the global poultry industry.

With KYEEMA’s help, GRM Social Club is fund-raising for ASVIMO NGO in Mozambique:
In February 2005, the GRM Social Club voted on which charity to donate their annual fund-raising efforts to. With KYEEMA’s backing, the Social Club voted to support the Mozambican Association to Support Widows and Vulnerable Children (ASVIMO). ASVIMO is an NGO based in Mozambique that focuses on helping households affected by HIV/AIDS. The International Rural Poultry Centre (a subsidiary of the KYEEMA Foundation) is already working with ASVIMO and the FAO (see Project Support page for further details). All funds raised through the GRM Social Club will be used to help buy four hens and a rooster, valued at A$25, for the most needy families. Monies raised will also help pay for vaccination of chickens against Newcastle Disease (ND). By April 2008, 31,828 chickens were vaccinated across 140 households in Maputo province and 20, 670 chickens vaccinated in Dondo district, Sofala Province. Over the long-term, families should be able to sustain the cost of chicken vaccinations themselves, and use the chickens for home consumption as well as an income source to enable them to buy other food, clothes and to pay for school fees.
